Introduction

In my research lab, we seek to solve problems pertaining to the chemistry of life processes involving iron, such as cellular iron uptake and regulation, biological oxidation, nitrogen binding and fixation, and hydrogen generation. We study aspects of the mechanism, structures of the intermediates and model complexes for these processes. The bulk of our experimental work involves Mössbauer and EPR spectroscopy. Our Mössbauer spectroscopy laboratory was established in 2004 with funds from an NSF-MRI grant.
