Introduction

Tanya Gladney, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Justice and Society Studies at the University of St. Thomas. She is also the Law Enforcement program coordinator and director of the Master of Science in Emergency and Disaster Management program. She teaches a range of courses, including Crime and Delinquency, Police and Society, Homicide, Seminar in Criminal Justice, Internship in Criminal Justice, Families in Italian Society (a study abroad course in Italy) and Introduction to Sociology. Her primary research examines inequalities within social institutions, both historically and in contemporary contexts.

Dr. Gladney brings a strong professional background in law enforcement and the military. She has 10 years of law enforcement experience with the State Capitol Police in Jackson, Mississippi, and served eight years in the United States Army Reserve. In addition to her academic work, she has provided cultural awareness training for police departments and facilitated workshops for both local and international audiences.

Dr. Gladney is a governor-appointed member of the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board, where she serves on the training and rules committees.
