Introduction
John Sailors, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Marketing at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business. He teaches courses in principles of marketing, marketing research, and marketing analytics, where he brings an applied perspective informed by expertise in analytics, consumer behavior, and marketing strategy. His teaching emphasizes hands-on learning, critical thinking, and the development of students’ ability to work with data in thoughtful and rigorous ways to inform managerial decision-making, while also challenging and supporting them as they grow toward their academic and professional potential.
Sailors’ research examines meaningful and challenging business questions that can be informed by analytical rigor and marketing insight. His work spans consumer judgment and decision-making, marketing metrics and reporting, and ethical behavior in business contexts. His research has been published in journals including the European Journal of Marketing, International Journal of Market Research, Journal of Islamic Marketing, and Journal of General Psychology, among others.
In addition to his academic career, Sailors has held industry roles as Director of Analytics at Ipsos-Insight and as a consumer insights consultant. In both those roles and in his subsequent consulting work, he has partnered with organizations to use data and analytical methods to better understand customers and inform business decisions. He continues to draw on that experience in his teaching and research, with a focus on bridging analytical rigor and practical decision-making.
