Introduction

Dan Pioske is a biblical scholar who specializes in the literature of the Old Testament. His research explores these ancient texts within their broader historical and archaeological settings so as to better understand the claims they make and the communities who once made them. He is also interested in how writings composed in antiquity might still speak to us today. He is the author of three books and over two dozen articles, with work appearing in journals such as Vetus Testamentum, Journal of Ancient Near Eastern History, and Near Eastern Archaeology. His current book project is a history of Jerusalem that is focused on the city’s destruction by the Neo-Babylonian Empire in the early 6th century BCE.
