I am a professor in the English Department, and I also direct the Center for Writing. I teach first year students, a course for majors in English with a Writing Emphasis and majors in Teacher Education (and anyone else interested in improving their academic and professional writing!), and a course on writing theory and practice required for student I hire to work in the writing center.
The focus of my research is writing theory and practice. I have lately been interested in how writing centers and teachers can support intercultural awareness in all students. Through service learning in the community, my students are challenged to re-think their writing and reading practices at the university compared to the challenges those in the community have with their own literacy.
