Introduction

Dr. Hodge is an Associate Professor and the Assistant Chair in the Department of Justice & Society Studies where she teaches primarily within the Criminal Justice program. She regularly teaches courses such as Hate Crimes, Introduction to Criminal Justice, Seminar in Criminal Justice, Crime & Delinquency, and Critical Issues in Corrections. Her research interests include hate crimes, gender and queer issues within the criminal legal system, and community-engaged learning as a critical pedagogy within higher education.

Dr. Hodge's book, Gendered Hate: Exploring Gender in Hate Crime Law, was published with Northeastern University Press. She has also published in peer-reviewed journals such as Feminist Criminology, Women & Criminal Justice, The Prison Journal, and the Journal of Ethnicity in Criminal Justice.

Dr. Hodge served as the inaugural faculty director with the Center for the Common Good at St. Thomas from 2018-2023. In this role she encouraged and supported students, staff, and faculty to work in collaboration with community partners to address complex social issues. Dr. Hodge also served as one of the university's three Change Leaders through Ashoka U.

Prior to joining the faculty at St. Thomas, Dr. Hodge was an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. She received a doctorate in Criminology from the University of Delaware.
