Introduction
Dr. Hilary Brown is a Senior Engineer at the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), where she focuses on planning the future power grid. She received her BS in Engineering Physics and MS from the Colorado School of Mines. As a master's student, Dr. Brown explored the emerging trend of smart grids and how reconfiguration in distribution systems could improve reliability. After graduating, Dr. Brown worked as an electrical engineer for Burns and McDonnell with a focus on substation protection and control. Dr. Brown began her doctoral work at University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2012. Her dissertation focused on the subversion of feedback controllers as a mode of attacking the power system. After Dr. Brown received her PhD in 2017, she began working at MISO as a System Planning Engineer, with a focus on evaluating transmission system performance. In 2019, Dr. Brown became a Policy Studies Engineer and has worked on projects evaluating the performance of utility plans and the impacts of electrification on the bulk power system. Dr. Brown is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota (License #59593).
