Introduction

Dr. Mills is a historian of modern Japan, with a focus on the decades after World War II. His current book project—Garrison Life: Militarization and Everyday Life in Japan at the Dawn of the Postwar American Empire—is under contract with Columbia University Press. He offers courses on topics that include Japanese and Chinese history, East Asian history, trans-Pacific history, and the history of empire. He grew up in rural North Dakota and can sometimes be spotted biking around the Twin Cities.
