Charles M. "Mel" Gray has worn numerous hats during his time at the University of St. Thomas, including Professor of Economics and of Business Economics, Director of Faculty Development, Director of the Center for Nonprofit Management, and Economics Coordinator for the MBA Program.
His prior experience includes service as research economist at two Federal Reserve Banks and staff economist for a Minnesota state agency.
His professional service includes Editor of Nonprofit Management and Leadership and President of the Association for Cultural Economics, International. His awards include a faculty research grant from the Blandin Foundation and designation as an initial University Scholar at the University of St. Thomas.
Gray is currently conducting research on coproduction in arts and other nonprofit organizations and arts organizational architecture. Cambridge University Press has published the third edition of his seminal coauthored volume, The Economics of Art and Culture, and he is working on a book-length manuscript on creating and measuring social value in the nonprofit sector.
