Introduction
After a postdoctoral stint at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Tolman was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Minnesota (1990), and rose through the ranks to Distinguished McKnight University Professor. During this period he served as Chair of the Department of Chemistry (2009-2017). In 2018 he moved to Washington University in St. Louis, where he was William Greenleaf Eliot Professor of Chemistry, Vice Dean for Research & Entrepreneurship in Arts & Sciences, and a Faculty Fellow in Wayman Crow Residential College. He began his current position in July, 2022. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Chemical Society, and has published > 235 peer-reviewed articles that have been cited more than 26,000 times. He served as Associate Editor (2009-2012) and as Editor-in-Chief of the American Chemical Society journal Inorganic Chemistry (2013-2022).
