I teach and write about drama and theatre and am researching how playwrights create experiences that help us get close, care about one another, and feel more alive. My books include The Drama and Theatre of Sarah Ruhl and (in progress) The Drama and Theatre of Annie Baker.
My courses tend to explore drama and mental health, literature and medicine, and understandings of love, relationships, emotion, and the body, from ancient and early modern literature (Euripides, Shakespeare) to what's on stage today.
I love teaching abroad- in Rome and Athens and Instanbul and Glasgow- and guiding students into writing about their experiences.
