Featuring Dr. William T. Cavanaugh, DePaul University
In this program, Dr. William T. Cavanaugh will present on themes from his most recent book, The Uses of Idolatry (Oxford University Press, 2024). Drawing on the work of Karl Marx, St. Augustine, and Jean-Luc Marion, Dr. Cavanaugh will examine the theological concept of idolatry as it relates to modern consumer culture.
Dr. Cavanaugh (Ph.D, Duke University) is a professor of Catholic studies and director of the Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology at DePaul university. A former faculty member of the University of St. Thomas, Dr. Cavanaugh's research focuses on the Church’s encounter with social, political, and economic realities.
