Abstract
In light of Pope Francis' announcement of an Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, set to begin December 8, 2015, the topics of this year's series of discussions will investigate the role of "Mercy" in matters of law and public policy. Topics include: amnesty, federal narcotics sentence reforms, physician-assisted suicide (mercy killing), hate-speech and forgiveness, marriage and divorce, and debt relief.
Fr. Larry Snyder will offer insights on how we might celebrate this "Extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy" and take advantage of the great amnesty that it affords.
The Jubilee Year has always constituted an opportunity for great amnesty, which is intended to include the many people who, despite deserving punishment, have become conscious of the injustice they worked and sincerely wish to re-enter society and make their honest contribution to it.
