Abstract

Professor Brooke Vetter studies how freshwater fish detect and respond to sound, particularly how human-generated noise affects their behavior and reproduction. Drawing on her background in sensory physiology and neuroscience, Vetter's lab uses both field experiments and laboratory audiology techniques to measure fish hearing and test how noise influences foraging, stress, and communication. By working closely with undergraduates and sharing her findings with scientific and regulatory communities, Vetter aims to build the knowledge needed to better protect fish and aquatic ecosystems from the growing impacts of noise pollution.
