Abstract
In a world of stiff competition, being ethical in business can seem to be like being polite on the football field. It might be a nice thing to do, but it will not win many games. On the other hand, some people say that being ethical is one more component in a smart business strategy. Ethics, they say, is an instrument for making more money; ethical companies win, at least in the long run. These 2 views of ethics are mistaken in important ways. Ethics, in the best sense of the term, is about excellence.
