Abstract
Horses have played prominent roles in warfare since prehistoric times. Coupling them with military music has resulted in a tradition of horse-mounted military bands that spread throughout Europe and followed British, French, Portuguese, and Spanish colonization to Africa, Australia and North and South America. Gleason features the National Guard cavalry band, whose tradition ended essentially at the beginning of the World War II.
