- Annotation
- Discusses various fictional works appropriating Hemingway s life and writings. McFarland compares Michael Murphy s portrayal of Hemingway in the semibiographical Hemingsteen (1978) with Keith Abbot s Hemingway in his fantastical metafiction Rhino Ritz (1979) to illustrate the broad spectrum of speculative work regarding the author s life. Concedes that such fictional pieces may lack scholarly value, but suggests their worth insofar as they prompt readers to revisit Hemingway s fiction, which is ultimately the best means by which to understand the author.
