- Annotation
- Examination of Hemingway s early work to uncover the author s ambivalence toward authenticity in both his life and writings. M ller argues that Hemingway s depiction of authentic characters and settings fortified the authentic pose he adopted for himself. Compares the inauthentic corruption of Paris to the authentic tradition of the Spanish settings found in The Sun Also Rises. In connecting the construct of authenticity with the profession of writing, M ller analyzes Hemingway s depiction of literary merit and the role of writers in The Sun Also Rises, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, and Green Hills of Africa.
