- Annotation
- Argues the importance of determining which lines the old waiter speaks to correctly understand the different psychology of the characters and their views on death. Drawing on manuscripts, Kerner argues that the dialogue s ambiguity reflects a nihilistic struggle between two nadas an internal, individual nothingness and an external, universal nothingness from which a clean, well-lighted place serves as a temporary refuge.
