Abstract
The Independent Commission for Stasi Review investigated approximately 160 members of the German Olympic Team for possible connections with the former East German secret Police. The allegations were that the Stasi, the infamous former East German secret Police, used coaches, officials and athletes to spy on other athletes, stop defections as East Germany became an Olympic powerhouse. The USOC cited a number of factors for their decision including inappropriate interactions with athletes, violations of the USOC Coaches' Code of Ethics, the USOC Code of Conduct, the Olympic Charter and other standards, and the initial decision by the USBSF to terminate Mr. Nardiello's employment following the 2006 Olympic Winter Games.
