Abstract
Hard disk drives are the primary medium for storing digital data in the information storage industry worldwide. Competition in the hard disk drive industry requires close attention to technology and product development. The result of hundreds of millions of dollars and years of efforts is a product life cycle that is only six quarters, not years, long.
The study deals with implementing an effective global supply chain for the Seagate Technology, a leading global disk drive manufacturer; capitalizing on various enterprise-wide initiatives, including Six Sigma and lean manufacturing by utilizing a general framework for transforming to lean operation, to improve the product value chain and information management capability.
