- Annotation
- Describes the Macomber relationship as based on fear of individuation and dependence. Argues that Macomber s newfound bravery and desire to withdraw from their marriage threatens Margot s existence; therefore, although she consciously shoots to save Macomber s life, she unconsciously kills him as a way out of her symbiosis without endangering her existence. Draws on Lacan s theory of desire.
