- Annotation
- Challenges the omission of racial tension in scholarly examinations of the Nick Adams stories. Focuses on the violation of Indian territory, both psychically and physically, and on the general degradation of Indian characters in both stories. Argues that in his depiction of the instability of racial identity, Hemingway exposes the instability of power (white domination) based on racial identity. Strong aims to address the absence of Indian viewpoints, narrative, and language, therein filling the silence of the marginalized minority.
