- Annotation
- Comparison of the treatment of sexuality and martyrdom in The Sun Also Rises to Faulkner s The Sound and the Fury (1929). Asserts that Brett s sexual sins are redeemed through the love and actions of Jake Barnes, a Christlike figure whose impotence both reflects and symbolizes his sacrifice for Brett. Suggests that Jake selflessly replaces his own need for a romantic relationship with Brett with a sincere desire to be a source of strength to those he loves.
