- Author/Creator
- Erik Nakjavani
- Publication Details
- North Dakota Quarterly, Vol.60(2), pp.159-184
- Annotation
- Concerned by its consistent ambivalent critical reception, Nakjavani offers a new critical reading of the play, first by making a distinction between its ideology and politics, and then by how Philip Rawlings displays this distinction through his relationships with Dorothy Bridges and Max. Concludes that The Fifth Column is artistically successful when it draws on ideology but is unsuccessful when it draws on politics.
