- Annotation
- Analysis of Hemingway s treatment of horses in Death in the Afternoon within the context of World War I, modern literature, and bullfighting. Caramello examines the burlesque of tragedy present in the death of the horses, concluding that Hemingway believed protecting the horses from attack took away from the ritual and cheapened the cathartic effect of the life and death experience.
