- Annotation
- Argues that Hemingway intentionally imitated Byron in the creation of a celebrity persona to simultaneously sustain a literary and popular reputation. Hishmeh points out the similarities between the great authors who emphasized being men of action, fictionalized their own experiences, satirized potential competitors, and fostered hyper-masculine images. Hishmeh ends by describing the successful continuation of the Hemingway myth in the Smithsonian s exhibition Picturing Hemingway (1999).
