Abstract

Authoritarianism Factors Parents Selfesteem Students Universities USA
The effect of parental authority upon the selfesteem of 230 college students was studied. Authoritarianism and authoritativeness of the mother and the father were found to correlate significantly with selfesteem: authoritarianism was inversely related to selfesteem while authoritativeness was directly related to selfesteem. Permissiveness of the mother and the father were not significantly related to selfesteem. (Abstract amended)
