Abstract
There are many ways people can deploy a strategic initiative or program. In fact, this seems to be one of the most popular topics at lean Six Sigma conferences. One critical aspect that often seems to get lost or not emphasized enough is customization or localization. Most programs are vulnerable to a one-size-fits-all approach. To be effective, each program needs some level of customization. Here are four steps to effectively and efficiently deploy a strategic initiative or program: 1. Collect voice of customer (VOC) data to study the environment and specific needs. 2. Perform a current-state assessment and gap analysis. 3. Build a customized strategic and tactical plan based on identified gaps. 4. Execute the plan with constant, real-time adjustments. It's critical to pay attention to customization to make a deployment as effective and efficient as possible. Identifying specific root causes for specific problems is part of the customization.
