- Annotation
- Drawing on the theories of Michel Foucault, Whittier traces the opposing clinical and erotic viewpoints throughout Frederic and Catherine s relationship. Explores how the medical gaze of the hospital detaches and dehumanize the body, despite Frederic and Catherine s attempt to maintain eroticism through their sexual interaction. Concludes that through Henry s eroticized narration of their tale, the novel ultimately celebrates Eros despite the clinical execution of romantic love.
