- Autobiography and Anesthesia: Ernest Hemingway, Storm Jameson, and Me
- Author/Creator
- Bonnie Wilde Cunningham

- Women’s Studies, Vol.24(6), pp.615-629
- Annotation
- Examines the relationship between pain and anesthesia in A Farewell to Arms, Storm Jameson s None Turn Back (1936), and in Cunningham s own experience. Cunningham argues that Catherine, who breaks Hemingway s code of honor, is a victim of gendered suffering where worth is measured by stoicism and repression. Exposes Catherine s death as a possible result of the dangerously high doses of anesthesia administered by Frederic.
