Abstract
This article reports the results of a survey of business school administrators about communication course practices and preferences. We divided respondents into three categories for data analyses: top 100, other accredited, and nonaccredited schools. We found that most business schools offer undergraduate business communication courses, and management departments are the primary source for communication courses in business schools. Most business schools also require courses from communication and English departments. A high percentage of top 100 schools require graduate communication courses, and a correspondingly high percentage hire graduate communication faculty. On the other hand, nonaccredited schools more often offer undergraduate communication courses and hire undergraduate faculty. Business schools prefer to hire communication faculty with expertise in areas such as management, organizational communication, interpersonal and small group communication, and business education. They also expect them to do publishable research.
