- Annotation
- This article explores the Spanish reception of Ernest Hemingway's The Dangerous Summer, published in 1960. This is the only Hemingway work that Spanish critics could review right away, and it sparked controversy among critics, aficionados, and the general press. Many reacted strongly to his disparaging remarks about the revered matador Manolete and questioned his understanding not only of the bullfight but also of Spanish culture and history. However, others downplayed its importance and praised Hemingway's deep love for Spain. These commentaries—and where they were published—shed light on the complex nature of Hemingway's relationship with post war Spain.
