- A "Comer" or a "Second-Rater"? Fitzgerald's Encounters with Michael Arlen
- Author/Creator

- Publication Details

- Annotation
- Michael Arlen's 1924 novel, The Green Hat, was popular in its day and caught the avid attention of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Ward reconstructs Arlen's presence on the literary and social scenes, perceptions of his novel's resonance in The Sun Also Rises, Hemingway's disregard for the Armenian-English author, and the sometimes sketchy links between Arlen and FSF in subsequent years. Illuminates Hemingway's account, in A Moveable Feast, of listening to Fitzgerald go on about Arlen's books and suggests something like a mutual rivalry was at play.
