Abstract

trauma-informed education (TIE) culturally responsive education (CRE) Orff Schulwerk Model Music Education
The purpose of this master’s project was to create a music education curriculum for a local homeschool co-operative, referencing other research around trauma-informed education (TIE) and culturally responsive education (CRE) while leaning heavily on the Orff Schulwerk model. Currently, there are not many resources directly speaking to trauma-informed music education or curriculum design that takes into account all these aspects. However, with the effects of the global pandemic still very fresh in most of our memories, many of our students still struggle with the helplessness, worry, stress of those long months, not to mention those who have also dealt with grief and loss of loved ones. It is my hope that the unit ideas will be a useful resource and springboard for other music educators who are interested in integrating TIE and CRE into their music practice in concrete, applicable ways.
