Abstract

This study is intended to aid in the availability of research related to the archaeological site of the Soline Bay Maritime Villa in Sveti Klement, Croatia. Serving as a historical and historiographical examination, the goal of this paper is to provide a clear overview of the site and its associated research, including its history and findings. As a multi-faceted review of archaeological work done at the site, this paper reconciles the archaeological record with the historical record and provides comparative analysis that is intended to be useful for both professionals and the general public. While significant archaeological research has been done at the site, this study fills the need for a comprehensive overview of that work, placing the Soline Bay Villa in its historical context relative to other villas in the region, as well as the economies and cultures that influenced it. Intended to serve as a resource for future scholarship on this site and maritime villas in general, this body of research is a contribution to making information on the site more accessible through digital archives, visual aids, map consolidation, and the first attempt to contribute through 3D modeling.
