Abstract
The literature review includes examinations of assessment in music education and the importance of individual assessment. Incorporating student reflection as that individual assessment promotes student achievement, goal setting techniques, learning relevance, rapport, and critical thinking skills. Teaching reflection through scaffolding supports students in developing reflection skills. Questionnaires, peer interviews, journals, and specific questioning techniques are activities that support this process. Unit plans are provided to scaffold reflection activities over the course of a concert cycle. This paper can serve as a reference for teachers looking to incorporate more student-centered strategies in the secondary choral classroom.
