Abstract
According to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), an average of 60% of people in the United States are playing video games every week. 83% of children ages 5 to 12 are also playing video games weekly (Archer, 2025). Video games are a modern art form that is vastly prevalent in our cultural society, especially among younger people. The music accompanying these games is also popular, yet music performance spaces have been void of it. Within this commentary, I will be discussing the importance of including video game music within the framework of music education—specifically, the instrumental performance space. This project will address the importance of studying and arranging this video game music while also including an arrangement of music from the game Stardew Valley.
