This project shows the process and product of seventh grade biological males collaborating with their choir director to write a choral piece for their spring concert. The choral piece they created together, “Freedom,” makes use of hip-hop techniques such as rap, call and response, and overlapping ostinati. The musical, social, and emotional education opportunities encountered are also discussed, along with methods to overcome various obstacles in this process.
