Best friends Berniece and Henry have been navigating life together for most of Berniece’s existence. The thing is, Henry is a ghost whose also been navigating death since 1825. Berniece has been trying to help Henry find a way to the Afterlife throughout their entire friendship, but she’s about to turn 80-years-old, and she’s beginning to feel time ticking for both of them.
One night, they are gathered at their usual haunt, Carmine’s restaurant, with their friends Sophie and Nell. They are setting up for a card game when a mysterious stranger enters the restaurant and turns everyone’s lives upside down. The stranger has a connection to Henry’s secretive past and weird things start happening in her wake: the ghost of Henry’s long lost love emerges, an opinionated dog starts following Berniece around, and supernatural beings begin popping up everywhere.
This is all leading to something, but the friends don’t know what. They will have to navigate these new forces together while confronting their pasts and maybe, finally, finding the Afterlife that Henry has been waiting for.
