Abstract

songwriting Music Education
Music education has been on a route of change for years. It has been acknowledged that students need time to create in the classroom. A large aim of education has been to allow student-led learning and creative freedom. Popular music and songwriting courses have been on the rise, proving to meet every essential music standard in a creative outlet that promotes learning, individuality, and self-expression. Similar courses have been implemented as both solo courses and integrations within current music offerings. The purpose of this project was to: 1) provide an overview of the many parts, benefits, and methods that have been most beneficial within a songwriting course and 2) to present a curriculum for teaching songwriting.
