Abstract
This Banded Dissertation (BD) explores representation of Black, Indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC) within Social Work Faculty ranks, with a primary emphasis on Black faculty. Conceptualization of the BD followed the tenets of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and the 2022 Education Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS), as set forth by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Specifically, the BD explored forms of oppression and racism that may exist within social work academy in regard to the representation of underrepresented BIPOC Social Work Faculty. The first Product is a historical review of events leading up to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and how the CSWE responded to the demands made of the institution, by Black stakeholder groups. The second Product is an exploration of trends in growth or lack thereof, in BIPOC representation within the ranks of Social Work Faculty. Findings showed that BIPOC faculty, specifically Blacks are underrepresented, longitudinally within the Social Work professorial ranks. The third is a peer-reviewed workshop that was given at the 40th Annual Baccalaureate Program Directors (BPD) conference on April 1, 2023, in Montgomery, Alabama
