Abstract

Nutrient pollution continues to degrade global lake water quality, and most interventions to address this focus on controlling phosphorus. However, both phosphorus and nitrogen contribute to eutrophication, and while their environmental cycling is linked, how the reduction of phosphorus availability impacts nitrogen cycling is not well understood. Here we leverage 46 alum treatments as whole-lake, phosphorus removal experiments and compare them to 30 untreated reference lakes. This data packages includes the metadata necessary to analyze existing water quality data.
