Abstract
This study utilizes a case study method to examine participants’ perceptions of the opportunities and challenges in utilizing virtual reality (VR) technology in a service-learning project that provides mutual benefits to pre-service teachers and diverse teen learners in a community library. The findings show that the project contributes to increased teacher candidates’ confidence and knowledge about teaching, enhanced ability to engage learners, and accessible VR technology to the library. The challenges include a lack of relevant VR content and deeper connection with diverse teens, and technical glitches. Recommendations focus on opportunities for learner-centered activities and content as well as compatible technology and robust networks.
