Immediately the layers of interdisciplinary collaboration are apparent, first in situating the collected essays within the field of "cultural disability studies" that grew out of identity studies (xiii), and then in aligning the "lens of disability" used to assemble these essays with a similar agenda that produced examinations of musical subjects using the lenses of race, class, and gender (1).
