Abstract
The narrative chapters, stemming as they did from previously published articles, only briefly touch on music-theoretical constructs, like Schoenberg's "tonal problem" or the function of inversional symmetry in atonal music. [...] broader claims, like those that seem to map inversional symmetry onto bilateral body symmetry, can seem in need of more grounding. [...] in theory, conceptual metaphors are informed by bodily experiences apart from language, they underlie notions of space, motion, and gesture.
