Abstract
Those of us in the academy are often reminded by others that, whatever else it is, the workplace we inhabit is “not the real world.” The real world is the world of business, or politics and law, or healthcare, or social work, or some other activity that comes into contact with and struggles to overcome the problems of life. By contrast, a college or university is an artificial environment, a place to discuss ideals not realities, a place where mistakes are only practice and do not really count.
