- Annotation
- Comparison study examining the cultural milieu of the Lost Generation found in Hemingway s novel and O Neill s play. Though differing in focus, both works feature female protagonists traumatized by World War I who, in compensating for their losses, damage themselves sexually and emotionally. Murphy also focuses on the failure of religion to bring comfort or hope to either protagonist. Concludes that Hemingway and O Neill shared a concern for the lost souls of the Lost Generation.
