- Annotation
- Analyzes the unexpected mass appeal of A Farewell to Arms to post-World War I audiences, and its success in illustrating the war. Argues that it is Hemingway s style and painstaking attention to detail that simultaneously ground and transcend the reader all at once immersing him in war, and then enveloping him in love and peace, however ephemeral. Cobley argues that Hemingway s work, though considered autobiographical, demonstrates artistic license at its most precise.
