Abstract
At first glance, one might get the wrong idea about the SEM-R. After reading about Book Hooks, individualized conferences, and exciting Phase 3 choices, one might mistakenly believe that the SEM-R was designed only to make reading a more pleasurable experience, rather than a learning experience grounded in research-based reading practices. The more experienced reading teacher, however, will have detected the inclusion of research-based reading methodologies that accompany the enrichment pedagogy and research and are embedded in all three phases of the SEM-R. In this chapter, we include an explanation of the reading strategies that are incorporated into the SEM-R, as well as explanations about how they can be integrated.
